About me
I have spent fifteen years sitting with people in the middle of hard seasons, and I still think the most useful thing I offer is a room where nothing has to be performed. My work is grounded in attachment theory and trauma-informed practice, and I lean practical: we will name what is happening, understand where it came from, and build something you can actually use on a Tuesday afternoon.
My approach
I work from the belief that most of what we call dysfunction started out as something that kept you safe. So rather than trying to argue you out of a pattern, I want to understand what it was protecting, and then find out together whether it is still needed. In practice that means a lot of curiosity and very little advice-giving. I use EMDR and IFS when trauma is in the picture, and more structured CBT tools when someone wants something concrete to practise between sessions. I will tell you what I am thinking rather than keeping my formulation to myself.
What a first session looks like
The first session is mostly me listening. I will ask what brought you in now, as opposed to a year ago, and I will ask about the parts of your history that seem connected. You do not have to have it organised, and you will not be asked to retell anything traumatic in detail on day one. Near the end I will tell you honestly what I think is going on and how I would want to work on it, and you can decide whether that lands. Plenty of people take a session or two to decide, and that is a completely reasonable thing to do.
Who I work best with
I do my best work with people who are functioning well on the outside and struggling considerably on the inside: the ones holding a job and a family together while something older keeps surfacing. I am a good fit if you want to understand yourself rather than just feel better quickly, and if you can tolerate a therapist who will gently push back. Many of my clients come in after a loss, a divorce, or a career change that cracked something open.
Who I might not be the right fit for
I am not the right therapist if you are looking for someone to primarily manage medication or for very short-term coaching around a single decision. I do not provide custody evaluations, court-ordered assessments, or letters for legal proceedings. If you are in active crisis or need a higher level of care than weekly outpatient therapy, I will say so early and help you find the right place rather than keep you on my caseload.
